There’s plenty to do in the ‘untamed wilderness’ of the West Coast

We are lucky enough to call one of the most beautiful and diverse parts of New Zealand home. From towering mountains and glaciers to lush rainforest and rugged coastline, you’ll find some of the most unspoilt and untamed natural wilderness as well as true kiwi hospitality from the Coasters.

Our part of the coast lies halfway between Greymouth and Hokitika and is the perfect stopping off point on the way through to Arthurs Pass(or once you come over from the east coast). A visit to Kumara puts you right on the doorstep of some iconic West Coast attractions and is the perfect place to base yourself for a day or two.

kumara village

Kumara town is rich in history and is proud to be the site of one of New Zealand’s last great gold rushes. Full of tales of hardship and heroism - our past residents certainly lead a very different life.
