The Barbara Weldon Room (Bordello)

432

Originally from Ireland, Barbara was one of New Zealand`s most notorious prostitutes. Police files state she was a perfect pest outside the gaols and a continual source of trouble whilst inside. Barbara died in a house fire on Seddon Street and is buried in the Kumara Cemetery.

This room could tell stories! This was the original working girl’s room. When rebuilding the hotel, it was discovered that the interior of the walls were lined with thick sawdust for soundproofing.

It is now decorated with stunning, rose-patterned wallpaper; thick, luxurious carpet, antique dressing table and rich velvet drapes.

Transport yourself to another era and let your imagination go wild.
