Named after our most famous resident, Richard John Seddon who was Kumara`s first mayor and N.Z`s longest serving Premier.
This is an upstairs room.
With its rich, bold wallpaper, plush carpet and antique writing desk, this room exudes a masculine charm. Richard John Seddon would have been as at home in this room, as he was in his residence further down Seddon street.

Louisa Jane`s Room



This room is named after the esteemed wife of Richard John Seddon. Louisa Jane Spotswood/Seddon was without a doubt, one of early Kumara`s most-respected female pioneers. She was a talented, strong lady who always displayed kindness and compassion to all.
This room would make any Victorian woman proud. Walls are adorned with soft bouquets of pink and green tumbling roses, has plush carpet to sink your toes into, a Victorian dressing table, velvet drapes and all the charms of another elegant period of time.
The bed can be either king-sized or two singles.

Annie`s Room



This room is named after the original proprietress, German-born Annie Anderson. Annie ruled the Theatre Royal for 40 years, until her death in 1933. Annie`s room is a queen-sized bedroom with elegant, old-styled wallpaper featuring soft hydrangeas. It has an antique dressing table, fit for a Victorian lady of means, plush velvet drapes that transport you back to another era, but thankfully it also has all of the modern amenities.

Otto`s Room



This room is named after the original proprietor, Otto Anderson, who originated from Sweden. As well as being the Theatre Royal publican for 25 years, Otto was also a miner. He died of injuries sustained from a rockfall, whilst mining at Payn`s Gully in 1901. He is buried in Kumara.
This is an elegant room with deep burgundy and green wallpaper, Victorian writing desk, plush carpet, velvet drapes and an “olde worlde” charm.

The Barbara Weldon Room (Bordello)



Originally from Ireland, Barbara was one of New Zealand`s most notorious prostitutes. Police files state she was a perfect pest outside the gaols and a continual source of trouble whilst inside. Barbara died in a house fire on Seddon Street and is buried in the Kumara Cemetery.
This room could tell stories! This was the original working girl’s room. When rebuilding the hotel, it was discovered that the interior of the walls were lined with thick sawdust for soundproofing.
It is now decorated with stunning, rose-patterned wallpaper; thick, luxurious carpet, antique dressing table and rich velvet drapes.

Scottish Sandy`s Room


This room is named after Sandy Stewart. Sandy was a much-loved, one-legged, kilt-wearing, red-haired, Scottish publican who owned a hotel on top of what is now known as Sandy`s Hill. He would stride across the hill, playing his bagpipes, to warn moonshiners to close down their stills when he could spy the police riding in to perform a raid.
This queen room is the only downstairs room and is a disabled access room.

Burridge`s Miners’ Cottage
